Bayelsa State Now A Mega Fish Producer In Nigeria

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources now have a  well processed and standard packaged catfish for the market.

In a press briefing convened by the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources- Hon. Doodei Week with press men in his office in yenagoa; was centered on the score card of the ministry on the Bayelsa Aquaculture Village Project at Yenegwe.

The success of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Bayelsa state under the leadership of Hon. Doodei Week can never be overemphasized, the score card of the ministry is visible and commendable.

According to the commissioner;
as we speak, we have done minimal harvesting of the fish farm at Aquaculture Village. Due to the fact that we have not started full blown production activities, test-running was done with few ponds. We were all amazed by the quantum of fish harvested, and the tonnage gotten from each pond was impressive (3 to 4 tonnes of fish was harvested from each pond).
This is beyond our imagination, most problem of fishermen and pond owners is mortality due to poor management. Here; we produce fish, process and package  them for market. He added.
This is  the little effort the ministry is doing, working with stakeholders to give hope to Bayelsans. The Agric boss, promised that by 2018 the Ministry would consciously do more to drive Bayelsa State agric sector to more successful  hub. That his ministry cannot afford to retard in any way, Bayelsa is an agrarian state, he added.
