When they finished playing football, the victims said that they were tired and they wanted to swim in the river, he said".He explained that himself and some other other students present asked the victims not to go to the river, that the river is too deep for them to swim, but the victims asked to be left alone.
The principal of the school, Asuquo Ekong, who confirmed that two students drowned in Qua River, said a female teacher called him in the night of the incident to inform him of the sad occurrence.
"I have interrogated them but they are giving me conflicting versions of the incident".The principal also added the the school management was not aware of the match between his school and the rival school.
He said that on the day of the incident, he supervised the examinations and after the examinations, he left for Ikot Abasi for a friend’s marriage.
